New 'Facilities' Make Condos Dog Friendly
A new invention for condo dwellers takes the trek and toil of dog ownership out of the equation.
Its 6:30 am, your alarm clock is not set to go off for another thirty minutes, but for one member of the family, the time to rise is now. Your dog sits at the edge of your bed, whimpering in the hopes that you will kindly take him downstairs to do his business. It’s a pain, but for many, it is simply part of the deal when owning a dog and a condo. However, for others it is a needless deterrent to dog ownership. The common comparison given is that cats can be trained on a litter box and are thus much less likely to be a problem if left on their own for a few hours. For dog lovers, that comparison comes at the cost of a dogs more interactive nature and personality. Finally, an Australian dog lover has come up with an invention to both lessen the burden of these instances and make that comparison obsolete.
Created through a combination of pet owner need and consultations from animal behavior experts, the pet loo is the brainchild of Simone Iglicki, 24. The unit consists of a base with drainage into a liquid collection jug, atop that is synthetic grass specially designed to give your pet a natural feel while resisting absorption. Any liquid dispensed on the grass quickly drains down and is collected for easy dumping. Any solid waste can simply be picked up and discarded in the toilet. Beyond that, simply wash the unit down as its materials are designed to not retain any smell or residue. The Pet Loo comes in three sizes, a 83cm by 83cm square which rises 13cm, as well as a 63cm and 53cm square models. The unit weighs in at just 7kg, making it easy to move. As well several can be placed together to give a park like feel for your pet. While it is convenient, it is not cheap at around $200-400 per unit. Yet if that extra bit of time in the morning, a clean carpet, and some peace of mind while not at home is valuable to you, this may just be your answer.
